Many people are still struggling on how to build their brand or personal brand in this day and age of social media. All I can say is that, I feel you.
Technology should give us an easy way of doing things, which it has and has not. Technology has made things easy to do but made you to make more things all at once or your load got even heavier (your to-do-list got bigger). Do you get what I’m saying here?
Like for example, social media marketing. If you don’t have any background in sales or marketing or in business then the word marketing alone and comperehending what marketing is all about will need more time to learn it. Meaning, you need to read the text books of Principles of Marketing, then you move into Marketing Management, then you go deep into Marketing Communication, Public Relations and Advertising. After that then you can dive into Branding and Copy Writing. If you don’t understand the fundamentals of Marketing, then it’s gonna be challenging for you to do branding.
So with that, I do recommend that you read a lot of books or ebooks about Marketing and related subjects. You can’t afford to buy books in Amazon or any online stores, then try this website, PDFDrive.com . This is my go to website if I need something to read and improve my knowledge on subject that I need to level up.
However, just knowing the theories and reading is not enough. You need to practice what you learned and make lots of mistakes or experiment (a lot) until you polish your thang.
Here are three ways on how to build your personal brand:
Consistency. What is your area of expertise? What do you want to be known for? Choose a subject and run with it. It could be anything from marketing to leadership to YouTubing or Facebook Selling. The key is to be consistent. If you’re all over the place, people won’t know what you stand for or what skills or knowledge you have to offer. Choose a message and stick to it.
Frequency. Once you’ve chosen your subject, be persistent about the message or your message. Share it as much as possible across multiple channels. Take advantage and maximize social media to share articles, photos, videos, and more. Join social media groups and make your social media group pages as well. Never spam people, but get your message out there as much as possible. You want to be in people’s minds or get a mindshare, and that doesn’t happen by only speaking up or sharing once a month. One of the best things to do is to have your own social media calendar, so that you can schedule your post in a more organized fashion (it’s like having a project management Gant Chart). Having a calendar will help you focus or at least guide you to your forward movement in your social media venture.
Visibility. Your consistency and frequency don’t matter if they aren’t visible. You have to share your message in the most visible ways on the most visible platforms. Reach out to other thought leaders, podcasts, or publications and offer to contribute or collaborate. When your message is visible, people will think of you when they need someone for a particular task or topic.
